Hoyt
Team Hoyt – Dick and Rick Hoyt – have inspired people around the world for the past two decades with their story of dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to each other. Rick was born with severe cerebral palsy, and in an effort to connect with his son and give him the experience of athletic success, his father, Dick Hoyt, began running with Rick, pushing him in a modified shopping cart. Eventually, Team Hoyt qualified for the Boston Marathon and became one of the most popular and inspirational stories of one of the most famous marathons. Rick and Dick then took on triathlons, with Dick pulling Rick in a boat, carrying him through the transitions, and riding a bike with Rick in a basket on the front. Rick’s favorite race is the Boston Marathon, while Dick’s is the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii. Team Hoyt is a charity that uses racing to raise money for disabled kids. The charity money goes to different organizations like Easter Seals. Nick Garner of www.SportsTalk4Kids.com caught up with Team Hoyt and interviewed them at the 2011 Boston Marathon.
